Don't You Think That's Sad?

Carey Mulligan in Shame by Steve McQueen (2011)

destroyingallyoulove:

The scene that tore my heart to pieces and made me fall completely in love with Carey Mulligan.

This scene said more about Sissy than any other, it said so much about her relationship to Brandon and it is clear that even if she is the one who drifts and often makes mistakes, when compared to her self awareness and openness, Brandon’s well put together life is just a mirage that he himself is crumbling and diluting by his inability to communicate the pain he is going through. This entire scene was like a raw nerve for both their characters.

This always makes me think of Sissy as a teenager, in a rare moment of peace, dreaming of a better life for her and her brother.
